When Penis Enlargement Surgery Goes Wrong

Penis enlargement surgery (Penoplasty) is quite popular these days with men undertaking the procedure to increase the size – length and girth – of their penises. Still, like other procedures, it can go wrong.

Since we have made strides in the field of penoplasty, different types of surgical procedures can be done to increase the size of the penis. They include:

  • Penuma insertion
  • Dermal implants
  • Cutting the ligaments holding the penis in place

They each aim to increase the size, and mostly the girth of the penis.

Cutting the Ligaments

In this procedure, the ligaments that hold the penis in place are cut to allow the penis to get longer. After the procedure, some form of stretching mechanism is used to ensure that the effects of the operation are permanent when the ligaments heal.

Dermal Implants

This procedure involves the insertion of dermal fillers into the shaft of the phallus as well as the glans section. This procedure does not require an incision because the fillers are injected into the body using a needle.

The procedure typically takes an hour with a recovery time of 48 hours to let the fillers to set. The effect of the fillers is not permanent as the fat gets absorbed by the body after at least 10-12 months. Of course, they can last longer than that depending on the individual.

Penuma Insertion

Penuma is currently the only kind of surgery that has been authorized by the FDA to be conducted for commercial use. It is used to increase the size of the penis and cure Erectile Dysfunction.

Penuma is a sheath made of soft silicone that is inserted under the skin on the corpus cavernosa. It was pioneered by Dr. James Ellist – a urologist based in Beverly Hills, California. He has been in the profession for over 37 years now.

It is meant to increase the size of the penis by around 2 inches.

The implant comes in three sizes: large, extra-large and double-extra-large.

In this procedure, the surgeon makes an incision measuring one to one and a half inches in the groin area above the penis.

The doctor then inserts the implant through the incision until it rests under the skin of the penis covering the corpus cavernosa.

To use the implant, you have to be circumcised. If you are not yet circumcised, that is the first thing you need to do.

The procedure uses local anesthesia. This procedure takes approximately 45 minutes.

Guys generally recover quickly from the procedure with a sizeable number of them able to go back to their daily activities the next day. However, they have to abstain from penetrative sex, oral sex, and masturbation for a period of four to six weeks after the procedure.

The effects of inserting the implant are permanent.

Risks, Side Effects, and Complications of Surgery

After surgery, you may not like the shape of your penis since the implants make it bulkier and swollen. For this, you only need to manage your expectations and come to terms with it. Deformation is not harmful, but some complications may occur. We group these into:

  1. Mild complications that should not alarm you
  2. Severe complications whose effects are exceedingly worse.

Let us have a look at each of them:

Mild Complications

Anesthesia-related side effects are common since these surgeries use it. The symptoms include:

  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Exhaustion
  • Confusion

For some people, anesthesia makes them prone to diseases like pneumonia, stroke, and heart attack.

Apart from anesthesia-related complications, some men get painful erections and also lose some penile sensitivity. These, however, are temporary.

Other complications that should not occur but still get reported include blood clots in the tissue, perforation of the implant, seroma, scarring, infections, and suture detachment – the coming apart of the stitches.

Severe Complications

The effects of doing surgical procedures incorrectly can be downright horrifying. A study conducted by scientists involving 11 men revealed the ugly side of penoplasty.

The men involved had varying ages with the youngest among them 21 years old and the oldest being 77 years old. The average age was 47 years.

They injected themselves with saline, silicon, fat tissue, or substances meant to replace soft tissue. A guy, aged 48, had a fat injection which went wrong. He experienced massive swelling and deformity. The skin of the penis had to be sliced below the head and peeled back like a banana to remove the fat.

Four of the eleven men did the procedures on themselves. The rest enlisted professional help with their injections.

The problems resulting from wrong surgeries included deformity, curvature, edema, chronic wounds, excessive swelling, serious infections, chronic ulceration, and severe shortening of the organ.

To rectify the problem, 10 of the patients underwent corrective surgery. Of these, two needed multiple procedures, and three required skin grafting.

Causes of these Complications

One of the following factors cause most complications, whether mild or severe:

Patients are failing to adhere to the recommended surgical aftercare procedures. For example, the doctor may instruct you to desist from all sexual activity for a while. If you violate this requirement, you may experience some form of complication.

Side effects related to the use of anesthesia. As with other surgical procedures, the body may react negatively to local anesthesia as mentioned above.

Patients are conducting the procedures on themselves. From the study, men who had the worst complications did the injections on their own. It is, therefore, clear that you should never do a procedure on your own. You should consult a medical specialist and have them do it instead.

How Can You Avoid Surgery-Related Complications?

The first step is to consult a doctor to get his recommendation on the best kind of operation that would work for you. Then, the procedure should be conducted by a qualified surgeon. It is too delicate to be done on your own. That way you will avoid the worst outcomes.

Alternatively, find another way to increase the size of your penis. A good example is the use of a penis extender like Phallosan Forte. I, personally recommend that you go this route because it has the following upsides:

  • First, your penis will not look as disfigured as it normally does after an operation. Remember that these procedures involve inserting something under the skin making it look bloated.
  • You can continue to have sex unlike when you have an operation. I know it is just a couple of weeks, but abstaining is extremely difficult sometimes.

Remember, mine is a biased view guided by my own experiences. However, you deserve to know these things to be certain of what you are getting yourself into.
